This paper reports on the ethyl acetate (EA) removal over a honeycomb catalyst using an experimental design methodology. A mathematical model based on the response surface methodology is developed to evaluate the effect of parameters such as specific input energy (SIE), humidity, and EA concentration on the response variables (i.e., removal and energy efficiency). A set of experiments based on a statistical three-level full-factorial design of the experimental method were performed to collect the removal data

Biometric technologies are becoming more pervasive in the workplace, augmenting managerial processes such as hiring, monitoring and terminating employees. Until recently, these devices consisted mainly of GPS tools that track location, software that scrutinizes browser activity and keyboard strokes, and heat/motion sensors that monitor workstation presence. Today, however, a new generation of biometric devices has emerged that can sense, read, monitor and evaluate the affective state of a worker.

The present paper focuses on the motion due to the thermocapillary force of a droplet in a circular tube through the front-tracking-based simulation. The tube profile in the axial direction is generated with a sinusoidal function that induces a constriction with depth d at the middle. The droplet is slowed down as it migrates from the cold region (ahead of the constriction) to the hot region in the downstream. Various parameters including the Marangoni number Ma, the capillary number Ca and the depth of the constriction d are varied to better understand the thermocapillary motion of the droplet under the influence of the constriction. The simulation results show that when the Ma number increases, the influence factor of the constriction increases and the migration velocity of the dr...

This paper proposes a deep learning (DL)-aided multicarrier (MC) system operating on fading channels, where both modulation and demodulation blocks are modeled by deep neural networks (DNNs), regarded as the encoder and decoder of an autoencoder (AE) architecture, respectively. Unlike existing AE-based systems, which incorporate domain knowledge of a channel equalizer to suppress the effects of wireless channels, the proposed scheme, termed as MC-AE, directly feeds the decoder with the channel state information and received signal, which are then processed in a fully data-driven manner. This new approach enables MC-AE to jointly learn the encoder and decoder to optimize the diversity and coding gains over fading channels. In particular, the block error rate of MC-AE is analyzed to s...

In ultrasound tomography (UT), Born iterative method (BIM) and distorted-Born iterative method (DBIM) based on Born approximation are considered efficacious. DBIM offers faster convergence compared to BIM; however, it is more susceptible to noise and vice versa. Combined or multi-model imaging is an indispensable trend of modern imaging to detect and accurately assess tissue states. The proposed method exploits the advantages, limiting the disadvantages and increasing the imaging speed of the merging of BIM and DBIM

The Automobiles are vehicles widely used to transport passengers and goods around the world. When traveling on the road, many factors affect the oscillation of the automobile. In particular, the stimuli from the road surface are the direct causes of its instability. The automobile’s suspension system has the role of regulating and extinguishing these oscillations quickly. To improve the efficiency, stability, and comfort of the vehicle, the active suspension system is proposed. This study establishes the quarter dynamics model to describe the vehicle’s oscillation

The temperature dependence of the reversible structural relaxation time and diffusion constant of metallic glasses under pressure is theoretically investigated. The compression not only changes the glassy dynamics, but also generates a metastable state along with a higher-energy state where the system can rejuvenate. The relaxation times for forward and backward transitions in this two-state system are nearly identical and much faster than the relaxation time without accounting for barrier recrossing. At ambient pressure, the expected irreversible relaxation process is recovered, and the numerical results agree well with prior experimental results. An increase in pressure has a minor effect on the relaxation time and diffusion constant that one computes without considering the influ...

Local delivery of drug is a promising strategy to manage periodontitis characterized by chronic inflammation of the soft tissue surrounding the teeth. An optimized system should prolong the drug retention time and exhibit controlled drug permeation through the buccal mucosal layer. This study was aimed to develop hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC)-based gel containing metronidazole (MTZ) loaded in solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs), and to enhance the antimicrobial activity of MTZ. SLNs were prepared using a combination method of solvent evaporation and hot homogenization. The results showed that the fabricated SLNs, comprising of Precirol (2.93%, w/v), Tween 80 (1.8%, w/v), and the drug:lipid ratio of 19.3% (w/w), were approximately 200 nm in size, with a narrow distribution. The HEC (3%, ...

Entrepreneurs play crucial roles in global sustainable development, but limited financial resources constrain their performance and survival rate. Despite the global presence of entrepreneurship, the literature of entrepreneurial finance is suspected to be Western ideologically homogenous. Thus, this study aims at examining this phenomenon by employing the mindsponge mechanism and bibliometric analyses. 412 highly cited publications extracted from the Web of Science database are analyzed to find Western ideological dominance and low tolerance towards heterogeneity in entrepreneurial finance’s core ideologies. The dominance and low tolerance are consistent across author level, institution level, and country level, revealing strong evidence for the existence of Western ideological hom...

In this work, chaos is experimentally observed from a circuit, in which the nonlinear element is a real memristor. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first nonlinear circuit with a commercially available memristor (KNOWM memristor), which has been implemented in order to experimentally investigate chaos and phenomena related with it, such as a route to chaos via period-doubling, one-scroll and the well-known double-scroll chaotic attractors.
