Low driving field-induced large strain in ternary lead-free Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-SrTiO3-ABO3 piezoceramics In this letter, three ternary lead-free Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-SrTiO3-ABO3 piezoceramics (ABO3 = LiNbO3, BaZrO3, and LaFeO3) were studied. The addition of ABO3 into Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-SrTiO3 ceramic induces a ferroelectric tetragonal-to-ergodic relaxor pseudocubic phase transition, resulting in the significant disruption of ferroelectric order with the shift of the ferroelectric-relaxor transition temperature down to below room temperature. The conventional furnace sintering and microwave sintering methods are conducted in this study to improve the electric field-induced strain properties of BNST-LN piezoceramic. Interestingly, the Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-SrTiO3-LiNbO3 sample sintered via microwave sintering method shows an ultrahigh normalized strain of 995 pm/V at an ultralow driving field of 2 kV/mm,... |
Network Function Virtualization (NFV) can support customized on- demand network services with flexibility and cost-efficiency. Virtual Network Function (VNF) instances need to be scaled out, scaled in, and reallocated across the NFV infrastructure (NFVI) to avoid a violation of service agreements when the demand traffic changes. However, selecting the new placement of VNFs for migrating a service function chain (SFC) is an issue of efficient NFV control. We propose two novel integer linear programming (ILP) models and two approximation algorithms for SFC placement and migration to maximize the cost-efficiency of an NFV network regarding the changes of service demands and dynamic routing. The ILP models allow us to obtain the optimal solutions of SFC placement and migration with expl... |

In this work, Ag@ZnO and Ag@ZnO/MgAC photocatalysts were synthesized using a simple two-step electrochemical method by the addition of magnesium aminoclay (MgAC) as a great stabilizer and a Lewis base, which could donate electrons for reduction of Ag+ and Zn2+ ions, facilitating uniform formation as well as effective inhibition of aggregation of Ag@ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) on the MgAC matrix. Ag@ZnO and Ag@ZnO/MgAC were investigated for photocatalytic degradation of MB and their antibacterial efficiencies. Ag@ZnO/MgAC showed excellent photocatalytic MB degradation with a performance of 98.56% after 80 min of visible-light irradiation and good antibacterial activity against Salmonella (Sal) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) bacterial strains, providing promising high application p... |
Droplets resulting from liquid filament contraction have been widely used in industrial processes. However, detailed investigations of liquid compound filament contraction processes are lacking in the literature. Therefore, this study provides a numerical investigation of the contraction of a two-layered compound filament. The simulations are based on an axisymmetric front-tracking method. It is found that because of the interfacial tension force, the initially long cylindrical filament contracts to a compound droplet without any breakup or breaks up into smaller droplets during contraction. Unlike simple filaments, the presence of the inner filament inside the compound filament results in a more complicated compound filament breakup process with various droplet types, e.g., simple ... |
This research presents a highly transparent concentrator photovoltaic system with solar spectral splitting for dual land use applications. The system includes a freeform lens array and a planar waveguide. Sunlight is first concentrated by the lens array and then reaches a flat waveguide. The dichroic mirror with coated prisms is located at each focused area at the bottom of a planar waveguide to split the sunlight spectrum into two spectral bands. The red and blue light, in which photosynthesis occurs at its maximum, passes through the dichroic mirror and is used for agriculture. The remaining spectrums are reflected at the dichroic mirror with coated prisms and collected by the long solar cell attached at one end of the planar waveguide by total internal reflection. Meanwhile, most... |
An accurate and fast estimation of cutting forces is necessary for improving the performance of five-axis milling. However, the engagement between cutter and workpiece is very complex and irregular, it represents the main challenge for the prediction of cutting forces. This research aims to present a cutting force model of five-axis ball end milling, in which the effects of lead and tilt angles are investigated. The simulation results show that the resultant cutting force and total engagement area between cutter and workpiece are increased rapidly when the tilt and lead angles are close to zero. The cutting forces under different tool orientations are analyzed. The results of the proposed approach are successfully evaluated by the existing model. |

Sustained microglial activation and increased pro-inflammatory signalling cause chronic inflammation and neuronal damage in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Resolution of inflammation follows neutralization of pathogens and is a response to limit damage and promote healing, mediated by pro-resolving lipid mediators (LMs). Since resolution is impaired in AD brains, we decided to test if intranasal administration of pro-resolving LMs in the AppNL-G-F/NL-G-F mouse model for AD could resolve inflammation and ameliorate pathology in the brain. A mixture of the pro-resolving LMs resolvin (Rv) E1, RvD1, RvD2, maresin 1 (MaR1) and neuroprotectin D1 (NPD1) was administered to stimulate their respective receptors. We examined amyloid load, cognition, neuronal network oscillations, glial activation a... |
