Network Function Virtualization (NFV) can support customized on- demand network services with flexibility and cost-efficiency. Virtual Network Function (VNF) instances need to be scaled out, scaled in, and reallocated across the NFV infrastructure (NFVI) to avoid a violation of service agreements when the demand traffic changes. However, selecting the new placement of VNFs for migrating a service function chain (SFC) is an issue of efficient NFV control. We propose two novel integer linear programming (ILP) models and two approximation algorithms for SFC placement and migration to maximize the cost-efficiency of an NFV network regarding the changes of service demands and dynamic routing. The ILP models allow us to obtain the optimal solutions of SFC placement and migration with expl...

We explore strain-modulated helimagnetism in highly crystalline MnP nanorod films grown on Si(100) substrates using molecular beam epitaxy. The strained MnP film exhibits a paramagnetic to ferromagnetic (FM) phase transition at T C ∼ 279 K , and the FM to helical phase transition at T N ∼ 110 K . The value of T N is greater than T N ∼ 47 K for the MnP single crystal, indicating strong strain-modulated helimagnetic states in the MnP nanorod film. The presence of significant thermal hysteresis in the helical phase indicates the coexistence of competing magnetic interactions, leading to the first-order metamagnetic transition. Similar to its single-crystal counterpart, an anisotropic magnetic effect is observed in the MnP film, which is independently confirme...

We study a generalized version of the load balancing problem on unrelated machines with cost constraints: Given a set of m machines (of certain types) and a set of n jobs, each job j processed on machine i requires time units and incurs a cost , and the goal is to find a schedule of jobs to machines, which is defined as an ordered partition of n jobs into m disjoint subsets, in such a way that some objective function of the vector of the completion times of the machines is optimized, subject to the constraint that the total costs by the schedule must be within a given budget B. Motivated by recent results from the literature, our focus is on the case when the number of machine types is a fixed constant and we develop a bi-criteria approximation scheme for the studied problem. Our r...

Electrospinning is a low-cost and straightforward method for producing various types of polymers in micro/nanofiber form. Among the various types of polymers, electrospun piezoelectric polymers have many potential applications. In this study, a new type of functional microfiber composed of poly(γ-benzyl-α,L-glutamate) (PBLG) and poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) with significantly enhanced electromechanical properties has been reported. Recently reported electrospun PBLG fibers exhibit polarity along the axial direction, while electrospun PVDF fibers have the highest net dipole moment in the transverse direction. Hence, a combination of PBLG and PVDF as a core–shell structure has been investigated in the present work. On polarization under a high voltage, enhancement in the net dipol...

Conventional Distorted Born Iterative Method (DBIM) using single frequency has low resolution and is prone to creating images with high-contrast subjects. We propose a productive frequency combination method to better result in tomographic ultrasound imaging based on the multi-frequency technique. This study uses the natural mechanism of emitting oscillators' frequencies and uses these frequencies for imaging in iterations. We use a fundamental tone (i.e., the starting frequency f0) for the first iteration in DBIM, then consecutively use its overtones for the next ones. The digital simulation scenarios are tested with other multi-frequency approaches to prove our method's feasibility. We performed 57 different simulation scenarios on the use of multi-frequency information for the DB...

Buried pipes suffer from various natural and human-related phenomena leading to the bending forces on such structures. The analytical models face obstacles such as the complications in modeling material behavior and the local stress concentration due to the appearance of defects are combined. This causes the accumulative over and under-estimation of pipe capacity due to the idealizations of full plastic stress distribution and location of defects at the most dangerous area, respectively. Consequently, such models are not appropriate in the case that defects are not located on the bending plane. The Finite Element, FE, approach is used to overcome these difficulties with the appearance of defects is randomly propagated around the pipe. Additionally, the bilinear material model is als...

In this study, we have developed, for the first time, a colorimetric and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) dual-mode sensing platform for sensitive amoxicillin (AMX) detection by employing electrochemically-synthesized copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) and copper-graphene oxide (Cu-GO) nanocomposites with low cost and high purity. The obtained results revealed that Cu-GO-based colorimetric nanosensor exhibited high sensitivity with AMX antibiotics in a linear working range from 5 to 50 µM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.71 µM, which was 1.3 times lower than that of CuNPs-based colorimetric nanosensor (2.17 µM). More interestingly, Cu-GO-based SERS nanosensor has a linear range from 0.01 to 1000 µM and a LOD value ∼x223C 0.0012 µM, which was ∼x223C 13 times lower than CuNPs-ba...

This method article presents the nuts and bolts of an AI-enabled approach to extracting and analyzing social media data. The method is based on our previous rapidly cited COVID-19 research publication, working on a dataset of more than 14,000 news articles from Vietnamese newspapers, to provide a comprehensive picture of how Vietnam has been responding to this unprecedented pandemic. This same method is behind our IUCN-supported research regarding the social aspects of environmental protection missions, now appearing in print in Wiley’s Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management. Homemade AI-enabled software was the backbone of the study. The software has provided a fast and automatic approach in collecting and analyzing social data. Moreover, the tool also allows ...

Although the government has made an effort to encourage reading, a Vietnamese person only reads four books per year on average. As low reading culture might hinder Vietnam’s pursuit of a knowledge-driven economy, this paper examines the relationship of students’ reading attitudes with gender, reading promotion activities, parents’ involvement. A dataset of 4966 secondary students in Northern Vietnam was used. The Bayesian method was employed to analyze the relationship between students’ reading attitudes and the following factors: their gender, reading promotion activities, parents’ involvement. The findings suggest that female students show more interest in reading than male students. Shared reading between parents and children positively correlates with students’ reading attitudes...
