A hot stamping process of quenchable steel tubes using a mandrel reinforced with eco-friendly fibers was developed to produce ultra-high strength steel hollow parts having enhanced lightweighting and crashworthiness. High internal pressure was generated to improve the die quenchability and shape accuracy of the formed parts by the fiber reinforcement. Wood sawdust, shredded copy paper, and plant fiber made of recycled toilet paper were chosen as the fibers, and not only the strength was evaluated from a uniaxial compression test but also the melting behavior of the mandrel was examined. The influence of the fiber reinforcement on the shape accuracy and die quenchability of hot-stamped parts was investigated. |
In recent times, an upsurge in the investigation related to the effects of meditation in reconditioning various cardiovascular and psychological disorders is seen. In majority of these studies, heart rate variability (HRV) signal is used, probably for its ease of acquisition and low cost. Although understanding the dynamical complexity of HRV is not an easy task, the advances in nonlinear analysis has significantly helped in analyzing the impact of meditation of heart regulations. In this review, we intend to present the various nonlinear approaches, scientific findings and their limitations to develop deeper insights to carry out further research on this topic. |
The experimental identification of the transition region and the different flow structures inside the boundary layer is still a challenge. For the first time, this research uses the remote microphone probe technique to experimentally evaluate the boundary layer development, the transition process, and the type of flow structures. The remote microphone probe technique is an effective and accurate experimental method to measure wall-pressure fluctuations. The development of the boundary layer was evaluated under natural and forced transition for different inflow velocities and angles of attack. Results of the wall-pressure spectrum, spanwise coherence at different chord positions, and the spanwise correlation length close to the trailing edge are presented. |
Reliable mechanical fault diagnosis of high-voltage circuit breakers is important to ensure the safety of electric power systems. Recent fault diagnosis approaches are mostly based on a single classifier whose performance relies heavily on expert prior knowledge. In this study, we propose an improved Dempster–Shafer evidence theory fused echo state neural network, an ensemble classifier for fault diagnosis. Evidence credibility is calculated through the evidence deviation matrix and the segmented circle function and employed as credibility weights to rectify the raw evidence. Then, an improved Dempster–Shafer evidence fusion algorithm is proposed to fuse evidence from different echo state network modules and sensors. Unlike conventional classifiers, the proposed methodology consists... |
We classify all exactly stress-free solutions to the cubic-to-trigonal phase transformation within the geometrically linearized theory of elasticity, showing that only simple laminates and crossing-twin structures can occur. In particular, we prove that although this transformation is closely related to the cubic-to-orthorhombic phase transformation, all its solutions are rigid. The argument relies on a combination of the Saint-Venant compatibility conditions together with the underlying nonlinear relations and non-convexity conditions satisfied by the strain components. |
This paper concerns a numerical investigation of the evaporative cooling of liquid film falling along a vertical channel. The first plate is insulated and wetted by an ethylene glycol liquid film while the second one (y = d) is dry and isothermal. A marching procedure is employed for solution of the equation of mass momentum, energy and concentration in the flow. Numerical results for air-ethylene glycol system are presented. The effects of ambient gas temperature and inlet vapor mass fraction of ethylene glycol on the heat and mass transfer and on the ethylene glycol liquid film evaporation are investigated. |
The deployment of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) in a plethora of analytical and bioanalytical applications is a growing research area. Their unique properties such as high but tunable porosity, well-defined channels or pores, and ease of post-synthetic modification to incorporate additional functional units make them ideal candidates for sensing applications. This is possible because the interaction of analytes with a MOF often results in a change in its structure, eventually leading to a modification of the intrinsic physicochemical properties of the MOF which is then transduced into a measurable signal. The high porosity allows for the adsorption of analytes very efficiently, while the tunable pore sizes/nature and/or installation of specific recognition groups allow modulating ... |
In this study, the sensory and mechanical aspects of the texture of goat’s milk salad cheese were correlated with the emotional profiles of consumers. Using descriptive sensory analysis and instrumental assessment, the texture profile of goat’s milk salad cheese was compared to cow’s milk salad cheese and Feta cheese. Texture measurements confirmed that goat’s cheese compared to cow’s cheese had more softness and less hardness, and Feta cheese had the highest whiteness index compared to the other cheeses. Goat’s milk salad cheese was much less acceptable to consumers compared to cow’s milk cheese and Feta cheese. Consumers also indicated that the hardness of goat’s cheese was lower than that of cow’s cheese and Feta cheese. |
This study determined the effect of three concentrations (R1: high, R2: medium and R3: low) of rosemary added to dry-cured ham slices vacuum packaged. pH and the colour parameters were evaluated at 0, 7, 14, 28 and 60 days of storage; visual appearance, odour, flavour and camphor content were assessed at days 7, 14, 28 and 60. The rosemary concentration changed the colour parameters, significantly altering the visual appearance (p < 0.001 at 7 and 14 days; p < 0.5 at day 28), but did not affect the pH, neither odour nor flavour. Nevertheless, significant differences were found with the time on R1 and R2 in odour (p < 0.01 and p < 0.001, respectively) and in flavour (p < 0.001). Camphor content was similar in all samples but changed over the time in R1 (p < 0.001) and R2 (p < 0.01). ... |
Chemical reactions of ball-mill activated [Nb6I11] with alcohol solutions of Mg alcoholates result in the formation of the three new hexanuclear Nb cluster compounds [Nb6I8(HOCH3)6][Nb6(OCH3)18]·2CH3OH (1), (PPh4)2[Nb6(OC2H5)12I6]·C2H5OH (2) and (PPN)2[Nb6(OC2H5)12I6] (3). They contain cluster anions, which have the edges of the Nb6 octahedra, i.e. the inner coordination sites, μ2-bridged by the O atoms of methanolato or ethanolato ligands. Thereby, they represent further characterized members of the so far very small group of hexanuclear cluster alcoholates. The terminal metal sites are bonded to further methanolato (1) or iodido ligands (2 and 3). Sterically demanding organic cations (PPh4+, PPN+, 2 and 3) or a cationic Nb6 cluster complex with terminal methanol ligands [Nb6I8(HOC... |
