An ionic liquid-polyaniline/tungsten disulfide (IL-PANI/WS2) composite was synthesized in 1-butyl-3-methylimidazole tetrafluoroborate (LB104) aqueous solution by in-situ polymerization and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. A current-carrying friction and wear tester was used to study the tribological properties of steel—steel and copper—copper friction pairs lubricated by an IL-PANI/WS2 lithium complex grease (LCG). After the experiment, scanning electron microscope was used to observe the surface morphology of the wear scar on the steel and copper plates, and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer was used to analyze the elemental composition of the wear scar surface. The results show that compared with greases containing IL-PANI and WS2, greases containing IL-PAN...

A wide range of signs are acquired from the human body called biomedical signs or biosignals, and they can be at the cell level, organ level, or sub-atomic level. Electroencephalogram is the electrical activity from the cerebrum, the electrocardiogram is the electrical activity from the heart, electrical action from the muscle sound signals referred to as electromyogram, the electroretinogram from the eye, and so on. Studying these signals can be so helpful for doctors, and it can help them examine and predict and cure many diseases.

Virtual reality (VR) is a promising tool for training life skills in people with intellectual disabilities. However, there is a lack of evidence surrounding the implementation, suitability, and effectiveness of VR training in this population. The present study investigated the effectiveness of VR training for people with intellectual disabilities by assessing (1) their ability to complete basic tasks in VR, (2) real-world transfer and skill generalisation, and (3) the individual characteristics of participants able to benefit from VR training. Thirty-two participants with an intellectual disability of varying severity completed a waste management training intervention in VR that involved sorting 18 items into three bins.

Due to the war in Ukraine, the European Commission has released its “Save Gas for a Safe Winter” plan, communicating the goal of reducing gas consumption in the electricity sector, among others. In this paper, the gas consumption in the electricity sector is picked up and the well-established concept of demand response is brought into alignment with the consumption of gas in the electricity sector, leading to the concept of gas-to-power demand response. Two proposed programs based on this concept are then applied in a production planning approach that shows how companies could proactively contribute to easing the tense situation in Europe, particularly in Germany, especially using methods such as scheduling and/or lot-sizing. This article is intended to serve as a basis for further ...

Knowing Home attempts to capture the creative vision of Indigenous scientific knowledge and technology that is derived from an ecology of a home place. The traditional wisdom component of Indigenous Science—the values and ways of decision-making—assists humans in their relationship with each other, the land and water, and all of creation. Indigenous perspectives have the potential to give insight and guidance to the kind of environmental ethics and deep understanding that we must gain as we attempt to solve the increasingly complex problems of the 21st century.

Smooth algebraic plane quartics over algebraically closed fields of characteristic different than two have 28 bitangent lines. Their tropical counterparts often have infinitely many bitangents. They are grouped into seven equivalence classes, one for each linear system associated to an effective tropical theta characteristic on the tropical quartic. We show such classes determine tropically convex sets and provide a complete combinatorial classification of such objects into 41 types (up to symmetry).

We propose a novel approach to check whether individual behaviour in binary-choice participation games is consistent with the restrictions imposed by symmetric models. This approach allows in particular an assessment of how much cluster-heterogeneity a symmetric model can tolerate to remain consistent with its behavioural restrictions. We assess our approach with data from market-entry experiments which we analyse through the lens of ‘Exploration versus Exploration’ (EvE, which is equivalent to Logit-QRE) or of Impulse Balance Equilibrium (IBE).

The aim of this article is to analyze how the concept of circular economy and especially the business model of industrial symbiosis can contribute to sustainable development in Uganda. We aim to add to emerging debates around green industrial policies by shedding light on a low-cost solution that can potentially promote a more sustainable industrialization in the Sub-Saharan African context. After sketching the regulatory and policy environment in Uganda, three indicative examples of industrial symbiosis in Uganda are analyzed, based on the result of field research and an online survey.

The main aim of the paper is to extend criticality theory to the operator Q′p,A,V. In particular, we prove an Agmon-Allegretto-Piepenbrink (AAP) type theorem, establish the uniqueness and simplicity of the principal eigenvalue of Q′p,A,V in a domain ω⋐Ω, and give various characterizations of criticality. Furthermore, we also study positive solutions of the equation Q′p,A,V[u]=0 of minimal growth at infinity in Ω, the existence of a minimal positive Green function, and the minimal decay at infinity of Hardy-weights.
