This graduation paper investigates the difficulties in learning English speaking skills of the third-year English majors at Phenikaa University. The study aims to clarify the challenges encountered by third-year English majors in speaking skills and possible solutions to overcome these difficulties and improve their speaking skills. Research results show that third-year English majors have difficulty in speaking English due to factors related to linguistic ability, psychology, and the learning environment. To address the challenges, some suggestions are also recommended by the graduation paper. |
The reliable results of the research is the product of a process of detailed statistics and synthesis by the author with comparing, contrasting and relating reference documents. 102 idioms denoting time in English and 111 equivalents in Vietnamese have been compiled. The research is not only academically significant but also offers practical and cultural values. This study explores the potential of online games as a vocabulary-learning tool for first-year English majors at Phenikaa University. It examines both students' perceived benefits and drawbacks to learning vocabulary through online games. This present research aims to develop understanding of a particular student’s performance and to identify the differences between the use of strategies between groups of students. Adopting quantitative method, it was found that the most frequent vocabulary learning strategies that learners employed belonged to the cognitive category. The study also revealed that weak students have little or no information on highly interacting means like Flashcards and interaction with native speakers while the average and good students are more perceptive in this utilization. Thus, this study will assist second year English students on how to employ various VLSs for their English learning and at the same time, suggest future directions of research. |
Khóa luận tốt nghiệp hướng tới nâng cao sự hiểu biết và cách sử dụng câu hỏi Wh- bằng cách phân tích đặc điểm cấu trúc và ngữ nghĩa của chúng trong tác phẩm tiếng Anh “Người chồng lý tưởng” và so sánh chúng với những tương đương trong tiếng Việt. Nghiên cứu đã chỉ ra mặc dù câu hỏi Wh- ở cả hai ngôn ngữ đều có chức năng và hỏi về nội dung tương tự nhau, nhưng vị trí cấu trúc của chúng lại khác nhau đáng kể. Câu hỏi Wh- của tiếng Anh đặt từ nghi vấn ở đầu câu, trong khi câu hỏi của tiếng Việt có thể đặt những từ này ở nhiều vị trí khác nhau trong câu. This graduation paper focuses on investigating the difficulties in learning English speaking skills among the second-year English majors at Phenikaa University. By using the quantitative method and a tool of questionnaire, this research analyze those students' perception about how frequently they encounter each of the difficulties when learning English speaking skills and simultaneously investigate their opinion about the level of effectiveness of some suggested solutions by using the Likert scale. The general outcome of the research is fairly optimistic & the detailed results may contribute to improving not only the students' self-study methods but also the lecturers' teaching techniques in the context of tertiary education. |
The Graduation Paper focuses on studying English phrasal verbs in general and phrasal verbs in the series “Active Skills for Reading” in particular. The paper also investigates the types, formation, patterns, meaning as well as the practical use of English phrasal verbs. Besides, it compares and points out the similarities and differences between English phrasal verbs with similar phenomena in the Vietnamese language. Through the surveys with suitable questionnaires and participants comprising 110 first-year and second-year English majors at Phenikaa University, the graduation paper points out the difficulties the students usually have when they learn English phrasal verbs; and recommends several ways for English learners to overcome such difficulties. |
This study looks into how pair work affects Phenikaa University second-year English majors' speaking abilities. Assessing how pair work improves students' skills in academic and professional contexts, the research focuses on fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar accuracy, and general speaking confidence. The research, which makes use of questionnaires and in-depth interviews with sixty students, finds that working in pairs considerably increases self-assurance, vocabulary, and grammar proficiency. Even if obstacles like uneven participation and communication breakdowns still exist, several students reported gains in their active speaking and pronunciation skills. |
This study aims to identify the syntactic and semantic features of adverbial clauses in English, which are extracted from the novel “The Thorn Bird” by Colleen McCullough, and relate them with Vietnamese equivalents.Practically, the exploitation of adverbial clauses in the novel “The Thorn Bird” helps learners gain a deeper understanding of adverbial clauses, from which they can enhance and improve their English language skills and translation ability from English to Vietnamese and vice versa. |
This graduation paper aims to discuss the conditional sentences in the novel “The Call of the Wild” by Jack London. The thesis is conducted to investigate the English conditional sentences in terms of their structures and uses, then find out all types of conditional sentences in this novel and their equivalents in Vietnamese. At the same time, the thesis identifies the similarities and differences in the grammatical features and pragmatic functions of conditional sentences used in the novel and their Vietnamese equivalents, and then offers some implications for Vietnamese researchers and learners on how to translate English conditional statements.
