    Magnetic iron oxide/kaolinite (MK) composite was synthesized using co-precipitation method and characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM/EDX, TGA, XPS, VSM, and zeta potential analyses. The synthesized composite consisting of kaolinite halloysites with small clusters of iron oxide on its outer surface was used in batch experiments to adsorb Congo red dye at different temperatures. The adsorption data were fitted to three different isotherms with Langmuir adsorption isotherm best fitting the adsorption data. The maximum adsorption capacity of MK adsorbent was found to be around 45.59 mg/g.     Bathymetric features such as dredged channels, constricted-inlet basins, and nearshore islands have known influences on coastal transport, which are typically studied on an individual basis. However, their interactive effects on flow when found in the same area are poorly characterized. A multi-season study was conducted to characterize surface transport in and around Wood Island Harbor, in the southwestern Gulf of Maine, where these features all exist in close proximity. Patterns of surface transport were assessed with repeated series of Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle flights and deployments of GPS drifters across tidal conditions and winds typical to the area. Transport followed a major axis through the harbor, as a result of the combined effects of the linked inlet-channel system.

    Plastic pollution is a growing global concern. Although the pollution itself is transboundary and knows no borders—the accumulation of plastics can have a more detrimental impact depending on where it is. In this study, we focus on the Arctic, an area where fragile ecosystems are increasingly under pressure from human-made products such as plastics. Although plastic pollution takes place on a global scale, it will be up to the regional and local levels to implement solutions that work in practice. In light of this, we held a participatory stakeholder workshop in the town of Longyearbyen on Svalbard to identify local perceptions from sectors directly affected by and affecting plastic use and growing mitigation efforts on Svalbard.

    A peculiar treaty management organization operates under the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement that does not fit established categories of international law and political science. Unlike traditional international organizations (IOs), it lacks the formal status of an IO, comprises only a limited secretariat with predominantly servicing functions, and is not even denominated as an organization. We argue that it has nevertheless become an international actor, mainly due to activities of its Conference of the Parties and several specialized organizational schemes. Theoretically, we develop an analytical framework that shows how even heavily member-dominated IOs can become international actors and what this means for global environmental governance.

    Natural ingredients (NIs) from plant biodiversity represent a value creation strategy in the transition to a sustainable biobased economy, especially in biodiversity rich countries. A necessary action to achieve this purpose is to orientate research and strengthen the knowledge base of NIs following a value chain (VC) approach. Although the promotion of NIVCs has gained increasing attention in the bioeconomy, a description of the scientific progress, research advances and gaps towards their development is necessary.     Tidal marshes are dynamic systems whose lateral expansion depends on various biologically, physically, and geomorphologically controlled small- and large-scale feedback networks.
