The study was conducted to discover common mistakes in the speaking performance of first-year English major students at Phenikaa University. Data was collected through students’ recordings and questionnaires. The results show the common mistakes students make and the causes that lead to the mistakes. In summary, there are two types of common mistakes that students make, which are related to grammar and pronunciation. The study also explores several causes of common mistakes in English speaking performance, including inappropriate pronunciation, lack of vocabulary, grammar, practice, preparation, weak listening ability, and lack of motivation for communicating in English. |
