Nanoscale films are integral to all modern electronics. To optimize device performance, researchers vary the film thickness by making batches of devices, which is time-consuming and produces experimental artifacts. Thin films with nanoscale thickness gradients that are rapidly deposited in open air for combinatorial and high-throughput (CHT) studies are presented. Atmospheric pressure spatial atomic layer deposition reactor heads are used to produce spatially varying chemical vapor deposition rates on the order of angstroms per second. ZnO and Al2O3 films are printed with nm-scale thickness gradients in as little as 45 s and CHT analysis of a metal-insulator-metal diode and perovskite solar cell is performed. By testing 360 Pt/Al2O3/Al diodes with 18 different Al2O3 thicknesses on o...

Although studies have explored the predictors of book reading interest among children, little is known about the underlying mechanism that helps children become interested in reading books. This study attempt to demonstrate: (1) how book-reading interest is driven by reasons for choosing books (recommendation or personal preference), (2) how students with high and low academic achievements are motivated by different thinking pathways, and (3) how home scholarly culture improves book-reading interest through such pathways. Using Bayesian analysis on a dataset of survey responses from 4966 Vietnamese secondary students (11–15 years old, sixth to ninth grade), we found: (i) Reading interest is positively associated with a book recommendation and parental book reading activities (parent...

Al-doped ZnO (AZO) has received significant attention due to its inherent properties like wide bandgap, high optical transparency, and electrical conductivity that has established its potential application in optoelectronic devices. The primary challenge in the efficient use of AZO thin films is the un-intentional formation of intrinsic defects, which deteriorate the device performance. The research community has made a significant effort to minimize these intrinsic defects and obtained high-quality films using low-cost growth techniques followed by a post-growth annealing treatment that has successfully suppressed defect states' formation. This presentation provides a comprehensive picture of the current state of knowledge on AZO's growth using spatial atomic layer deposition (SALD...

We present a numerical investigation of the breakup and freezing of a pendant hollow water drop beneath a cold curved surface. The drop contains a bubble surrounded by a shell of water that forms at an outer wetting angle of θo with the surface. The freezing begins on the cold curved surface and evolves in the direction of gravity. As it freezes, the water accumulates and forms a bulbous end at the bottom of the drop. Breakup can occur, inducing a daughter water drop. As a result, the freezing process of the remaining hollow drop attached to the surface takes less time, and the frozen drop shrinks. However, this breakup has no effect on the bubble. The various parameters under consideration include the Bond number Bo, the Stefan number St, the size of the bubble, and the angle θo. I...

The book examines the psycho-religious mechanism behind the violent extremism of suicide attacks in the post-9/11 world. It employs the mindsponge concept, an original dataset, and original research results obtained from the authors' statistical investigations using the Hamiltonian Markov chain Monte Carlo technique. It provides insights and implications for policymakers and strategists in their efforts to engage in peace talks and reduce violent conflicts worldwide.

Compound droplets with different sizes are increasingly used in industrial production and academic research. This study aims to improve understanding of the dynamical behaviors of the compound droplet moving in microchannels. The compound droplet consisting of one inner core is initially concentric and placed at the entrance of a circular channel with a cone at the downstream region. Following this primary channel is a secondary channel that is circular and straight. Manipulation of the droplet is assisted by a flow introduced via the gap between two channels. The numerical results show that when passing through these confined channels, the droplet experiences a finite deformation or breakup mode. In each mode, the deformation or breakup of the compound droplet is also different whe...

The rapid post-millennial internationalisation of Japan’s tourism sector and the influx of international visi-tors have quickly increased visitor motivations’ heterogeneity, thereby posing challenges for management. Given the lack of prior research, we aimed to identify nature-based tourism (NBT) push-factor motivation domains of visitors in a Japanese national park and segment domestic and international visitors based on their motivations, demographics and trip profiles. Primary data collection of 137 responses took place in November 2019 through an on-site self-admin-istered questionnaire. From 11 push-factor statements, the principal component analysis yielded a four-factor solution: ‘enjoying nature with family or friends’, ‘improving physical health’, ‘discovering and learning’...

One important requirement of modern supply chain management is the frequent exchange of containers via multiple cross-docks which requires spatial and time synchronisations between different types of vehicle. Moreover, as collaborations in logistics between several companies become popular, more flexible and extended models must be solved to consider the different needs of the companies. This is of high importance in a new logistics concept, the Physical Internet, which is expected to considerably improve the way logistics are handled in the current supply chain management. To optimise the aforementioned requirements, a rich vehicle routing problem with pickup and delivery including numerous attributes is modelled and solved. A mathematical formulation is proposed and implemented...

The current investigation revealed two prominent findings. First, the Aichi Biodiversity Targets positively affected scientific productivity, quality and international collaboration at the national level. Still, more than half of the countries on Earth (53.41%) had not acquired any interdisciplinary publication on the topic of biodiversity and tourism. Second, international collaboration was found to be an effective measure to improve scientific quality and quantity in both periods before and after the Aichi Targets. Although the impact of international collaboration on scientific output was similar between the two periods, its impact on scientific quality during 2011–2020 was lower than during 1991–2010

For mitigating environmental pollution caused by excess usage of urea fertilizer, this paper reports a new fertilizer formulation, based on urea incorporating chitosan (CS) and poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) blend, for the slow release of urea. The urea/CS/PVA formulations were prepared by cross-linking CS and PVA blend in the presence of urea with glutaraldehyde as a cross-linker. The results indicated an interaction between urea and the functional groups of CS and PVA through hydrogen bonding, which has significant effects on the thermal properties of urea/CS/PVA formulation. The surface morphology of urea/CS/PVA formulations showed that the quantity of urea crystals anchored on the surface increased with the contents of urea and the cross-linking agent. Urea/CS/PVA formulations with ...
