The main purpose of the research is to find out the difficulties in learning English Reading skills of first-year English majors at Phenikaa University. The tool used for collection data in the research is a questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed for first-year English majors and specifically, 120 students at the Phenikaa University participated in the survey. The results show that learners encounter many difficulties in learning Reading skills, divided into 5 main categories: unknown words, text coverage, background knowledge, organization structure, grammar, others (motivation, timing, strategies, materials). In addition, the study has suggested some strategies to help students overcome the difficulties and improve their Reading skills. |
The main goal of this research is to pinpoint and examine mistakes made by fourth year students majoring in English at Phenikaa University. The study adopts a mixed methods approach blending qualitative techniques such, as analyzing student written works and conducting interviews. This research uses a survey questionnaire and semi-constructed interview to obtain data about the difficulties students have when writing academic essays and to provide particular solutions to help them improve their writing skills. Particularly, this study assesses students perceptions of the most common mistakes they make in such different stages of writing academic essays as planning, drafting, and revising. Basing on the identified mistakes, the research will offer suggestions for improvements in students' writing of academic essays. |
